Holy Sacraments

Sacred rites that mark important moments in our spiritual journey

Baptism

The sacrament of initiation into the Christian faith, available for both infants and adults.

"Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. - Matthew 28:19-20"

Infant Baptism

For children under the age of 7, performed with the consent of parents or guardians.

Requirements:
  • Parent/Guardian consent
  • Godparent selection
  • Preparation classes
  • Church membership

Adult Baptism

For those who have reached the age of reason and wish to join the Orthodox faith.

Requirements:
  • Catechism classes
  • Faith preparation
  • Sponsor selection
  • Commitment to Orthodox life

Confirmation (Chrismation)

The sacrament of receiving the Holy Spirit, typically performed immediately after baptism.

"But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses. - Acts 1:8"

Infant Confirmation

Performed immediately after infant baptism as part of the initiation process.

Requirements:
  • Baptism completion
  • Godparent presence
  • Priest blessing

Adult Confirmation

For adults who have completed their preparation and are ready to receive the Holy Spirit.

Requirements:
  • Baptism completion
  • Catechism completion
  • Spiritual readiness
  • Priest approval

Holy Matrimony

The sacrament of marriage, uniting a man and woman in holy matrimony before God.

"Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. - Genesis 2:24"

Orthodox Marriage

Marriage between two Orthodox Christians within the church tradition.

Requirements:
  • Both partners Orthodox
  • Pre-marital counseling
  • Church blessing
  • Witnesses

Mixed Marriage

Marriage between an Orthodox Christian and a non-Orthodox Christian.

Requirements:
  • One partner Orthodox
  • Special preparation
  • Priest consultation
  • Faith commitment
